Samsung Galaxy Y Netphone Review

Samsung officially launched their most affordable Android handset today, the Galaxy Y, “Y” meaning “Young”. This phone retails for Php5,990 and is already available since last week. The price pushes the previous Samsung Galaxy Mini out of the market since you can get a better-specced phone at a cheaper price with this Galaxy Y.

Consequently, Smart also has its own Galaxy Y Netphone Edition which you can also get for Php5,990 but you will also get the free social networking benefits thanks to the SmartNet platform. Some specs may not be better than the Smart Netphone 701 but you can’t argue with the price on this one since you will also be getting a Samsung-branded phone running on Android Gingerbread.

The phone comes with the basic accessories: a pair of earphones, manual, Samsung Kies installer, charger, USB cable and a 2GB microSD card with an SD adapter.

The Samsung Galaxy Y reminds me of a smaller version of the Samsung Galaxy Ace. It even has  the same light, textured plastic back panel. What you’ll get from this phone is an 832 Mhz processor, 3-inch QVGA screen, 160MB internal storage, 2-megapixel camera and the goodies an Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread can offer.

This phone is really a nice way for younger people to make the switch from their feature phones to Android smartphones. It’s an entry-level Android device with an entry-level price and it might just be the Netphone Edition may just be the push Smart needs for their SmartNet platform to really take off.
